Do you ever struggle in finding the first piano teacher for your little ones? You have gone through different websites, asked friends for referral, checked on social media...etc etc...
In BC or even in Canada, you can easily find registered music teacher in your area. Simply search for registered music teacher/or piano teacher if specific. In my location (Surrey & Langley), you will be looking at South Fraser Music registered teacher.
Why do you want to find a registered teacher?
To be honest, a lot of good teachers have great experiences and not necessary to have the teacher certificate.
Registered teachers is a guarantee that you can be assured that they have all the certificates that are needed, they have been examined on teaching skills by professionals and examination board and they are active member in the society which would be able to guide you to the right path on music education.
Is the first teacher important?
ABSOLUTELY!
A lot of people would think they are not sure if the little ones will continue on the lessons, it seems to be just a try out, they can just find someone who knows some music to teach the basics, if the little ones are committed, they can find a formal teacher.
Really? No no...
The first teacher is the most important person in the whole music journey for your little ones i would say! The basic is needed to be taught in the correct way in day 1.
Hands positions, sitting positions, fingers usages, etc etc, all can leads up to a bigger problem in the future if taught incorrectly. If they have bad habits that were not pointed out on day 1, it will leads to months, or even years to correct that habits and creates difficulties to move on in the future.
Therefore, when you choose a teacher, referral will be one good starting point. If you or the teacher has time to meet, go for a quick interview (usually 5 minutes). Ask questions that you would like to know. The teachers would be more than happy to help.
Have a good start in September!
