Just less than one week, schools start, summer is over, everything seems to get back to routine again...are you ready to pick up the pace again?

Of course for school, you would be busy getting all your school supplies, new clothes if the old ones don't fit anymore...etc. What about your piano lesson?

Did you practice during the summer? I hope your answer is yes. Ok, I understand you have so many activities lined up in summer, you were away from home, you can't miss the sunshine there as we only have that few weeks of sunshine each year.

So...how can I get back to shape again? The pieces I used to know how to play seems to be a stranger to me now....my fingers don't move the way I want them to...

Here are a few things you can help before you resume your piano lesson in September, yes there is a week break before our lesson resumes, you can definitely try this.

Pick up your favorite piece and try to play it, even if it is lower levels pieces, just get the fingers moving.

  1. Practice some scales and technique (the technique books have some nice pieces there too). Again, it helps to get your fingers to move again. If you haven't been playing much for 2 months, your finger muscles will not work as well as you like, so don't have high expectation.

  2. If you are still struggling with note reading, use some apps to help on note reading, ask me about those, some are free too.

  3. Listen to some music, let yourself be musically involved again. It can be classical music that you are playing or pop music that you like.

  4. Set up a schedule again for practicing and stick with that for the rest of school year, even though it is just 15 mins. Be reasonable. The time will gradually increase to your normal practicing time in September.

  5. Don't panic! I will be here to help you get back in shape when we meet.

Hope you would have a happy start again in September!
